This sculpture can be compared to the famous *Virgin in Majesty* housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which was created in Catalonia in the 13th century. As in that Catalan work, the Virgin is depicted seated on a throne, holding the Infant Christ on her lap, in accordance with the iconographic type of the Sedes Sapientiae (\u201cThrone of Wisdom\u201d), in which Mary becomes the earthly seat of divine wisdom incarnated by Christ. <\/p>\n\n
